A Dhaka court has set January 9 for the hearing of bail petitions in nine cases filed against BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in connection with political violence with the capital`s Ramna and Paltan Model Police Stations.
Following defense motions filed with the court on Thursday, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury set the date on Sunday, said Fakhrul`s counsel Syed Joynul Abedin Mesbah.
A total of 11 cases were filed against Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir following the clashes during the BNP`s grand rally on October 28.
Among the 11 cases, eight were filed with Paltan Model Police Station and three were filed with Ramna Model Police Station.
On October 29, Fakhrul was arrested in the case filed over attack on Chief Justice`s official residence, and later was sent to jail.
